quia tu es Petrus

quia tu es Petrus

Peter’s first “papal” decision did not find any favor with the Lord. Peter had just told Jesus to NOT go to Jerusalem and be crucified. That of course would have denied salvation to all men.

Jesus is the head of the Church and NO ONE ELSE.

Jesus then said to Peter:

Matthew 16:23
Who turning, said to Peter: Go behind me, Satan, thou art a scandal unto me: because thou savourest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.

Mark 8:33
Who turning about and seeing his disciples, threatened Peter, saying: Go behind me, Satan, because thou savorest not the things that are of God, but that are of men.

Jesus said in His sermon on the mount:

Matthew 7:24
Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock, 25
And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock.

Matthew 16:18
And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

In Latin

Et ego dico tibi, quia tu es Petrus, et super hanc petram ædificabo Ecclesiam meam, et portæ inferi non prævalebunt adversus eam.

The rock (petram) is the “stone of stumbling, and a rock of scandal,” [see below] – Jesus Christ Himself.

St. Peter said:

1 Peter 2: [3] If so be you have tasted that the Lord is sweet. [4] Unto whom coming, as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen and made honourable by God: [5] Be you also as living stones built up, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood ['heirus' in Greek - it emphatically means all believers not a "priesthood" opposed to laity - laity in the new testament is laos in Greek and means unbelievers], to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. [6] Wherefore it is said in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious. And he that shall believe in him, shall not be confounded. [7] To you therefore that believe, he is honour: but to them that believe not, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head of the corner: [8] And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of scandal, to them who stumble at the word, neither do believe, whereunto also they are set.

In Latin

[8] et lapis offensionis, et petra scandali his, qui offendunt verbo, nec credunt in quo et positi sunt.

Petra and petram are the same: the ‘rock’ who is Christ and no one else. "Petrus" is Jesus renaming Simon as Peter meaning that confessing Him: Jesus as the Christ, was correct. When Peter (motivated by the things of this world) then turned it all around and tried to stop Christ from His Most Holy Crucifixion and thereby would have denied salvation to all men, Jesus called Peter: “Satan,” and told Peter that he was a scandal to Jesus. None of this has anything to do with Rome, Italy and who is bishop appointed by men there.

[9] But you are a chosen generation, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people: that you may declare his virtues, who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: [10] Who in time past were not a people: but are now the people of God. Who had not obtained mercy; but now have obtained mercy.

But people don't want to offend.

Liberal used to mean charitable and now it is co-opted as an euphemism for apostate depraved vileness.

But people don't want to offend.

Catholic ONLY means the same faith as held by the Apostles. The apostles did NOT believe in Peter, they (including Peter) believed in Jesus.

But people don't want to offend.

Jesus said - and He didn't care a single bit who He offended - Matthew 21:[41] They say to him: He will bring those evil men to an evil end; and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, that shall render him the fruit in due season. [42] Jesus saith to them: Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? By the Lord this has been done; and it is wonderful in our eyes. [43] Therefore I say to you, that the kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and shall be given to a nation yielding the fruits thereof. [44] And whosoever shall fall on this stone, shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it shall grind him to powder. [45] And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they knew that he spoke of them.

[46] And seeking to lay hands on him, they feared the multitudes: because they held him as a prophet.

Luke 21: [12] But before all these things, they will lay their hands upon you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons, dragging you before kings and governors, for my name's sake.

[33] Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. [34] And take heed to yourselves, lest perhaps your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly. [35] For as a snare shall it come upon all that sit upon the face of the whole earth.

[36] Watch ye, therefore, praying at all times, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are to come, and to stand before the Son of man.

Most people care only about the here and now and what they can get out of it. They certainly don't want to hurt any one's feelings.

Our Lord Jesus Christ didn't care about that.

But people don't want to offend.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said about that, using St. John the Baptist as an example:

Matthew 11:[6] And blessed is he that shall not be scandalized in me. [7] And when they went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: What went you out into the desert to see? a reed shaken with the wind? [8] But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings. [9] But what went you out to see? a prophet? yea I tell you, and more than a prophet. [10] For this is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel [messenger] before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.

But people don't want to offend.

St. Peter said:

1 Peter 2: [3] If so be you have tasted that the Lord is sweet. [4] Unto whom coming, as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen and made honourable by God: [5] Be you also as living stones built up, a spiritual house, a holy priesthood ['heirus' in Greek - it emphatically means all believers not a "priesthood" opposed to laity - laity in the new testament is 'laos' in Greek and means unbelievers], to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

But people don't want to offend.

1 Peter 2: [6] Wherefore it is said in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious.

The apostate popes and cardinals etc. ad nauseam, are in their palaces clothed in soft garments and lying through their teeth to one another and to anyone stupid enough to listen to them.

But people don't want to offend.

But St. Paul tells us what will happen:

2 Thess 1:

[6] Seeing it is a just thing with God to repay tribulation to them that trouble you: [7] And to you who are troubled, rest with us when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven, with the angels of his power: [8] In a flame of fire, giving vengeance to them who know not God, and who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9] Who shall suffer eternal punishment in destruction, from the face of the Lord, and from the glory of his power: [10] When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be made wonderful in all them who have believed; because our testimony was believed upon you in that day.

But people don't want to offend.

BELIEVE THIS: PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE OFFENDED:

Matthew 13: [41] The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity. [42] And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. [43] Then shall the just shine as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
